Cambridge Uses 3's and Defence to Stun Horde Keith Harrington-Staff Writer

The Mid-Atlantic coast was getting pounded Friday night with nearly three feet of snow. Locally it was cold and dry. In the Cambridge High School gym however, it was "raining threes." The Cambridge Indians used a barrage of three point shooting and a stingy 2-3 zone to knock off the Granville Golden Horde 60-46 in Wasaren League boys basketball action. The Indians lost to the Horde by 11 earlier in the season, but this was their night. Cambridge jumped out to a 15-9 lead after one quarter, and lead by as much as 8 in the stanza. In the second, the Indians used a pair of Will Bromirski 3 pointers, and one each from Todd Hunt and Nick Diotte to outscore Granville 14-10 to go up 31-19 at the break. Meanwhile the Horde were struggling against the Indians 2-3 zone. The Golden Horde seemed to usually attack the seams of the zone well, but could not get their shots to fall. They were also hindered by a number of turnovers. In the third the Indians put this away. Granville several times cut the lead to 10 early, but each time they did Cambridge would hit a 3, or Bromirski would penetrate the lane, draw the defence and dish to the open man. The player who benefited the most was Erick Mulready, who came off of the bench to score 14 points, 10 in the third as the Indians went up 53-33. In the fourth both teams substituted liberally and Cambridge cruised to the win. Bromirski, who is in shooting range as soon as he crosses the Shushan town line, led the Indians with 16 points. Mulready added 14. DJ Campbell paced Granville with 14.
