If there is one thing people should know about the Argyle Scots girls basketball team, it's that they don't quit and they don't go away easily. The Harrisville Pirates found that out on Saturday at ACC, but the Scot's valiant rally came up just short as Harrisville came away with a 55-51 win. Both teams seemed very nervous at the start of this one, and turnovers ruled the first quarter. The Pirates were able to protect the ball enough to grab an 11-7 lead, but back to back three pointers by Argyle's freshman sensation Jacquelyn Miller tied it at 13-13. A Kat French layup however gave the Pirates a 15-13 lead after one. Harrisville started to pull away in the second, leading 26-18, but a Shelby Graham foul shot and a three pointer by Lexi McWhorter got the Scots back within 26-23. Harrisville responded though with a 5-0 run to end the half, led by a Patty Coloney deep jumper to go up 31-23 at the break. In the third, Harrisville appeared to have put this one away. After the Scots cut the margin to 31-25, Harrisville, led by Coloney, went on a 11-2 run to go up 42-27. A Graham layup stopped the streak, and the Argyle rally began. Two Megan McWhorter foul shots got the Scots within 42-34, and then a huge 3 by Miller made it 43-37 to end the third quarter. At the start of the fourth you could feel the momentum shifting. A Harrisville free throw made it 44-27, but Graham was fouled on a put back and made both shots to make it 44-29. Argyle got within 46-43 with another Miller three pointer and a Sarah Bonhote foul shot. Graham connected for two more from the charity stripe to get the Scots within 1 at 46-45. Argyle though would get no closer. Harrisville appeared to seal it with a pair of Katlyn Hart three pointers to go up 52-47, but a Megan McWhorter three with 20 seconds to go made it 52-50. The Pirates though were able to make the foul shots down the stretch and earn the trip to the New York State Final Four. Miller led Argyle with 20 points. Graham added 16. Hart had 16 and Patty Coloney 12 for Harrisville. The young Scots, who will move to Class C next year finish an oustanding season at 18-4.
